View online November 18, 2008 New Google Sketchup 7 One of the biggest bargains on the Web today is Google Sketchup, a free 3D design application that lets you create 3D models of buildings, floor plans, layouts, products, or anything you can imagine. The top-rated design application has been an editor favorite for years. Publisher @Last Software first released Sketchup back in 2000 as a general 3D tool. Its ease of use and intuitive interface quickly got architects and designers on board, and in 2006, Google acquired the software publisher with an eye on using Sketchup with its (newly acquired) product Google Earth. Google quickly released a free version of the software and soon allowed users to design and create 3D structures that could be shared in the 3D Warehouse and even added to Google Earth. Google Sketchup 7, a major new version released Monday, makes it easier to search and find Sketchup from the 3D Warehouse directly from the application, and it also does a better job of crediting designers for their Google Earth creations.
